For the month of April, Mandarin Oriental’s Axis Bar presents an Easter-theme afternoon tea experience. As the pianist sets the mood, indulge in a splendid multi-course afternoon tea. Chill in comfy sofas, in a classy, sophisticated setting. Like to watch the world go by? Sit by the floor-to-ceiling windows and admire the view over Marina Bay.
Choose from a diverse range of TWG teas to accompany your nibbles. I had Emperor’s White Garden, a poetic combination of white, green tea enhanced by subtle scents from rose and jasmine. I nipped some of my dining companion’s up-lifting Earl Grey Chocolate, comprising of citrusy bergamot and hints of dark chocolate. Other interesting teas that caught my eye were White Silk ( blue, green and Yin Zhen from China) and Eternal Summer (rose, raw berries and peach from South Africa).
I was already impressed during my previous visit but this time, the imaginative recipes and unique presentation blew me away.
A lovely glass of chilled Cherry Blossoms Champagne Jelly marked the start of the gastronomic adventure!
The first wave of food arrived…
On the canapés platter, luxe savouries tantalised our taste buds.
From left to right:
–Duck Rilette and Foie Gras Terrine
-creamy Carbonara Eggs en cocotte
-succulent Poached Lobster with coriander mango salsa
On the sandwich platter, we sampled familiar favourites with a twist:
–Egg sandwich with watercress
–Lump Crab Meat and avocado sandwich, adorned with caviar
–Cucumber and cream cheese sandwich
–Bresaola and gem lettuce mini wrap with cheddar
Sandwich presentation is usually neglected and so they tend to appear dull. Mandarin Oriental stands out from the crowd. Notice the creative and elegant presentation of the traditional egg and cucumber sandwich?
I always look forward to freshly baked puff pastries and these incredibly good scones! This month, scone flavours are intriguing- Strawberry Yogurt and Citrus Peel & Tahitian Vanilla. Add a dollop of berry preserve, lemon curd or clotted cream and enjoy!
Easter Ham & Green Pea Pie and Chicken & Potato Turnover, were equally excellent. Hearty, well-seasoned filling, encased in buttery and flaky pastry- two thumbs up!
Ah, what’s afternoon tea without a 3-tier stand of enticing sweets? The cakes and desserts were so pretty, I can’t help but snap away!
On the top-tier, sits chocolate Easter Egg Baskets (even the “nests” are made from chocolate) and Fancy Macarons. The “macarons” are actually white chocolate shell with caramel filling.
Next, adorable Easter Cupcakes and delightful Vanilla Financier Rhubard Marmalade.
And for those who like their desserts pleasantly tart, Blueberry Mini Gateau and Sable Fruit Tart will definitely satisfy.
Staffed by a dedicated team, you will leave feeling spoilt, special and most importantly, infinitely refreshed 🙂
Many thanks to Vernia and Mandarin Oriental for the invitation.
