The variety of offerings at St Regis Brasserie Les Saveurs has increased a great deal since my previous visit (part 1, part 2). On Saturday afternoons, this lavish restaurant adorned with grand chandeliers and luxurious carpets, is an enticing afternoon tea destination. Apart from enjoying the buffet spread with live music serenading throughout the afternoon, dance instructions are always eager to waltz you away.
The Grand Astor Afternoon Tea Dance ( Saturdays only) is priced at $58++, includes a choice of TWG tea from an extensive menu listing black, red, green, white and roooibos and exclusive blended teas. Sundays to Fridays afternoon tea buffet (no dance) would set you back $48++.
I’ll start with the quintessential three-tiered silver stand .
The Beef Pot Pie was superb. Pry open the crispy butter pastry to discover tender, well marinated beef, which married well with sautéed mushrooms. Smooth and creamy Pumpkin Soup was slurp-worthy.
Ham Quiche and savoury bread & butter pudding.
Classic Sandwiches: Sliced tomato & cucumber, smoked salmon & dill cream cheese, Oven-roasted chicken with celery and creamy egg-chive mayonnaise. IMHO, rather boring.
Moving onto the buffet spread. First up, the cheese trolley with Gruyere, Brie, Camembert and Kikorangi. Didn’t catch the name of one of them as the label was too faded.
Parma Ham, Pork Pate and Smoked Salmon.
From top to bottom, Chicken Puffs, Chicken Sausage Puffs and Blueberry Egg Tarts
Novelty savoury scones include duck scones and pesto scones. Classic and cranberry ones are also available. Pair the buttery scones with clotted cream, chocolate sauce or fruit conserves & jams (mango, passion fruit, strawberry, apricot, mixed berries).
The section that makes everyone go wild, yes, the DESSERT table. Strawberry, blueberry, marshmallow and Madeline Sticks for swirling around in the pot of warm chocolate (not pictured).
Citrus Madeline and Chouquettes
Pandan Kaya and White Chocolate Cassis with Sable
Vanilla Panna Cotta and Chestnut Mousse
Banana Chocolate Feuillet and Glutinous rice
Strawberry Sable and Pistachio Cheesecake
Pear Crumble, Warm Chocolate Cake, Bread and Butter Pudding with Vanilla Sauce at the side.
It wasn’t easy picking a favourite out of these inspiring cakes but I felt the Pistachio Cheesecake left the deepest impression. Vanilla Panna Cotta was lovely too; I was pleasantly surprised by the intense bursts of flavour from the vanilla beans.
Crepe-lovers rejoice! Crepes here are prepared a la minute.
Home-made honey and fig ice cream was creamy and sensational. The fig bits added a much-welcomed texture.
My dining companion C, having a great time with the dance instructor.
