Taking tea is an age-old ritual. The glorious delight of fine tea, delicate morsels and engaging conversations will never go out of fashion. A few months back, A was in town for a vacation. Being dutiful hosts, J and I brought her to Regent’s Tea Lounge, one Singapore’s up-market spots for splendid afternoon tea buffet.
The quality and variety was as good as I remembered the first time I visited. Unlike some hotel afternoon tea buffets where the emphasis are placed on savouries and desserts only, Tea Lounge offers much, much more. Here you’ll be spoilt for choice- luxurious caviars, finger sandwiches, freshly baked pastries, gorgeous cakes, terrific scones, plus a selection of salads to (somewhat) ease the guilt from a self-induced food coma.
Now, let’s let the pictures do the talking, shall we?
Marinated grilled cucumber salad (my fav!)
Marinated grilled capsicum salad/ Barley and chicken salad/Pasta Salad/ Couscous Salad
Organic Quinoa/ Brown rice with almond
Avruga caviar/Salmon caviar/Green caviar (sea grape)
Gravalax Salmon and Herb Mayonnaise Sandwich/ Egg and cucumber mimosa in white bread/ Smoked trout and grape spread on brown bread/ Roast beef and horseradish on rosemary donut
Brie and tomato tart/ Chicken sausage roll/ Chicken pie/ Tuna Puff
Mushroom Quiche/Onion Foccacia with Anchovies
Seafood and caramelized pearl onion pot pie. Unique presentation, don’t you think? A cute bite-sized puff pastry replaces the usual sheet of pastry covering the entire pot pie.
Fried prawn balls/Satay with condiments
Bak Kwa (BBQ pork)
Other Asian flavours include Duck Otah Otah, Kueh Pie Tee. Roast Station featured Roasted Wagyu Rump and Roasted Duck. Confit of Salmon, Yorkshire Pudding and Roasted vegetables were also available.
Cheese platter featuring Asiago, Mucia AL Vino, Manchego Curado, San Simon Da Costa Dop, Wesleydale with Cranberries, Kikorangi blue and Blue Stilton cheese.
Desserts! Oh, guilty pleasures! So.Much.Happiness!
It wasn’t easy picking out a favourite out of the lovely desserts, but I think the superbly moist Red Velvet, delicate white chocolate raspberry mousse cake, and beautifully caramelised Creme Brulee stood out.
White Chocolate Raspberry Mousse cake
Lemon and Meringue Tart
Raspberry Panna Cotta and Chocolate Panna Cotta
Espresso and walnut cake
Chocolate cream puff
Dark chocolate and milk chocolate (not pictured) pralines
Crepe and waffle a la minute
Scone counter featured traditional and raison scones, accompanied with a jaw-dropping selection of 17 spreads.
Once again, Tea Lounge has succeeded in leaving a memorable impression. So much so that I’ve made reservations to take my parents and sister for an afternoon of feasting.
