Dinner @ Taste Paradise

Taste Paradise”s reputation for fantastic dim sum meant that it’s literally packed every weekend and usually with a queue out the entrance as well. Having savour their delightful morsels on several occasions, we were curious to check out their dinner offerings and hence here goes!

Occupying the span of an entire wall are life-sized portraits of China’s illustrious Qing emperors. The grand and opulent interior makes this a suitable venue to impress your dining companion. You can always count on Taste Paradise for courteous and efficient service

Do pardon my pictures; the restaurant’s dramatic lightening adds a yellow tinge.

To warm our tummies, we each had a flavorsome and nourishing bowl Black Chicken and Fish Soup ($48 for 3 pax).

Our BBQ Combination Platter ($28) consisted of Roast Pork Belly, BBQ Pork Belly and Roasted Duck. A platter of 2 varieties would set you back $20

With an unmistakably crackling skin and the right amount of fat, the Roasted Pork Belly was extremely addictive.

07-tile

Beautifully caramelized, moist and bursting with flavors, the BBQ Pork Belly was another crowd pleaser.

Roasted Duck was wonderfully tender and moist, balanced by a crisp skin. However, in terms of flavor, it was not as robust compared to the other 2 stars.

We love the oiliness and fattiness of a good fillet of cod. Despite undergoing the wrath of the oven, the Baked Fillet of Cod with Teriyaki Sauce ($16) was beautifully moist. With gentle pressure from chopsticks, the pristine fish flakes apart with ease. Having sampled the rendition with Chef’s Miso Recipe, I’d recommend the latter which is much more outstanding.

Huge and fresh prawns made even more awesomerrific with a thick coat of salted egg yolk. These Salted Egg Yolk Prawns ($26) were undoubtedly the favorite of the night.

10-tile

Sautéed French Beans with Dried Shrimp and Preserved Olives ($16) should please most palates.

To end off on sweet note, the uniquely but harmoniously coupled Chilled Avocado Puree with Coffee Ice Cream ($6.80) was instant gratification.

Unlike their dim sum, we didn’t find Taste Paradise dinner offerings particularly refined. The total bill came up to $219.75 for 3 pax, which we felt was too pricy for such common dishes. For that amount spent, we could’ve gone to many other Chinese Restaurants for an epicurean treat.
