Afternoon Tea @ Fairmont Bali

Take a step closer to nature at Fairmont’s Lobby Lounge, where afternoon tea is served in style. Nibble on a petite treats while enjoying the cool sea breeze in the regal stone pavilion, overlooking the resort’s tranquil gardens and the picturesque Sanur Beach.

Presented on an Oriental style arch with numerous compartments, the afternoon tea set looks too elegant to be eaten. Accompanying the collection of Balinese-inspired hand crafted morsels is a selection of English breakfast, Earl Grey, Chamomile, Darjeeling, Peppermint and Green tea, which can be prepared hot or chilled.

Absolutely flavorsome were the Mini Spiced Lamb Burger and Grilled Chicken Satay which nested on a bed of chopped curried long beans.

Mini bagel sandwiching a harmonious combination of bresaola, red onions and mustard.

Among the sweets, my favorite was the Green Tea Opera Cake laced with Gula Melaka. The slight bitterness of the green tea sponge contrasted beautifully with the sweetness of the palm sugar syrup. The Lemon Meringue Tart deserves a mention too. I like the face-scrunching tartness of the lemon curd and buttery tart pastry. They were really dainty though, I kind of wish they were full-sized. Madelines and Macarons were not outstanding, but still acceptable.

The Plain and Pandan Scones were a disappointment as they were too dry. I had to slap on loads of the accompanying condiments (vanilla cream, strawberry jam, lemon curd) to make them more palatable.

Service is befitting of such a luxurious resort- enthusiastic and warm. Afternoon tea is available daily from 2pm-5pm and requires reservation at least 1 day in advance. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend dropping by for afternoon tea or evening drinks. Canapés grace The Lobby Lounge from 5pm onwards; we sampled the delightful Raspberry Panna Cotta, Chicken Wonton and pickled Sushi.
