If it was not for a one-for one Entertainment Coupon, I’m reluctant to step foot into Marmalade Pantry @ Ion. Even after 2 years from my first visit, staff are still blissfully nonchalant to their surroundings.
Located on the 3rd level of the iconic Ion Orchard, the chic Marmalade pantry is a convenient spot to rest one’s heavy legs after hours of shopping.
We waited 25 minutes for our pastas to arrive. I find it hard to fathom what took them so long at 2.15pm on a weekday, when the lunch crowd have thinned down.
M had Spicy Crabmeat Pasta ($25), tossed in tomato sauce and chilli. Pine nuts gave bite and a more wholesome feel.
I had Seared Scallop and Prawn Pasta ($25) which was hearty indulgence in each mouthful. The al dente ribbons were drenched in a intense, slurp-worthy crustacean broth. Crunchy dried prawns added an elevated texture to the dish.
We settled for sweets on display as we didn’t want to wait another 20 minutes for their popular Sticky Date and Toffee Pudding to be prepared. It was a poor decision and we regretted not leaving Marmalade Pantry after our main course.
The Sea Salt Caramel Cheese Cake ($8) was a total disappointment. Not only was it too dry, we could hardly detect any saltiness, nor the caramel.
Limonata ($4.80) failed to save the day. It was also too dry and pitifully normal-plain vanilla sponge with lemon frosting. Absolutely not worth the $4.80 it commanded.
Needless to say, I don’t foresee a revisit in the near future.
