Hubby and I were pondering on what to have for dinner and after some research, decided on Steer Bar and Grill, which has many positive reviews and was close to our hotel (The Olsen) .
The ambiance is chic, modern and the atmosphere vibrant (after more guests arrived), complete with an open concept kitchen which offers diners an opportunity to watch their food being prepared. We arrived at about 6.05pm hence went for the Early Dinner Special, an offer whereby orders must be placed before 6.20pm and meals to be completed by 7.30pm.
The Early Dinner Special comprises of 2 options, a 2 course set for AUD 39.50 and 3 course set for AUD 44.50. Both include a side dish and a glass of wine, beer or soft drink.
My favourite drink in Australia- Lemon Lime Bitters.
The Steak Tartar arrived with an egg yolk, perched precariously atop. Our verdict- exquisite textures, well balanced by the flavours of its complementing radish garden and grilled Tarragon toast.
Crispy Fried Tiger Prawns has a stunning presentation. I adored this elegant appetizer of fried prawns lying on a swipe of mashed potatoes, accompanied with a refreshing cup of chilled Almond & Cucumber Gapacho. Absolutely divine!
Following our starters, came yummilicious steaks to fulfil our meaty dreams. I ordered a free range Black Angus pastor fed Porterhouse (additional $2) while Hubby had a Roasted Wagyu Rump (additional $9). Both were tender, juicy, and easily cut with a steak knife. We were impressed with the extensive range of condiments offered-I had seeded mustard, Dijon mustard and butter sauce which did a great job jazzing up my steak.
One should not miss the velvety Mashed Potatoes, enhanced with Cafe de Paris Butter. Spring Greens were alright, nothing to shout about.
We were too stuffed for dessert so ended the tummy-bursting meal with complimentary Honeycomb Meringue.
The Early Dinner Special is amazing value and I highly recommend it. We were so fond of the delectable offerings at Steer that we revisited before leaving Melbourne.
