Does paradise exist? If it does, it’s very possibly in Alila Villas Uluwatu. The luxury resort is perched on limestone cliffs, overlooking the vast Indian Ocean. I’ll focus on the food first before blogging on our villa experience and resort facilities (typical foodie hey).
CIRE’s a la carte buffet breakfast offers only the freshest ingredients, and the fine dining restaurant strives to use mostly organic and local produce. Plates are served in tasting portions, tapas style, allowing diners to experience a variety of flavours and textures. Menu changes daily and there’re so many options, it’s impossible to try everything.
Well, gluttony me did try, but failed. Hubby’s too stuffed (from helping me finish my ambitious ordering) to even smile.
Here’s a sample menu:
You can choose to dine at the cabana by the cliff’s edge (limited seating) or at the restaurant, which is L-shaped overlooking either the ocean or the stunning pool and gardens.
On our first morning, we had…
Potato, smoked salmon & leek Frittata, Banana Pancake with Orange Sauce, freshly squeezed Green Apple Juice and Cappuccino
Strawberry Smoothie modelling with the magnificent Indian Ocean as a backdrop. I’m at the cabana by the way.
Potato Wedges clocked with herbed sour cream and chilli flakes
An elegant interpretation of Bread Pudding. Chilled and adorned with apple compote and cinnamon.
Local Indonesian flavours include Bihun goreng udang (fried rice vermicelli with prawn) and Pisang Goreng (fried banana with palm sugar syrup)
Made to order Omelettes (we had tomatoes, cheese & ham), Cured Ham & Smoked Chicken, buttery croissants and baguettes
On day 2, we had…
Crispy bacon, beef sausages, smoked salmon with potato salad, grilled sourdough, waffles, butter croissants (my fav!) and Kwetiao goreng ayam (fried flat rice noodles with chicken and vegetables)
Close up of the Grilled Sourdough with roasted cherry tomato, feta cheese and olive oil.
Another close up of the airy waffles which possessed a delicate crisps on the outside. Drizzled with unique lemongrass syrup, then adorned with diced mango and a dollop of mascarpone.
Fluffy Pancakes sweetened with berry compote and vanilla mascarpone
Monkeys do drop by, in hopes of savouring a little piece of heaven, but were promptly shooed away by the staff.
As you can see, the breakfast situation at Alila Villas Uluwatu is nothing short of amazing. Service is unparallel too! For once I can sit back, relax and enjoy the excellent food and spectacular views, without having to get up to fetch food from a buffet line.
