Bebek Tepi Sawah

I’ve heard a lot about Bali’s Dirty Duck, hence upon arrival, I told our driver that we would like to head to Bebek Bengil for lunch. Our driver recommended Bebek Tepi Sawah instead, a restaurant that serves the same quality fare, sans the hordes of tourists.

The restaurant is comfortable and clean, with rustic Balinese décor taking centre stage. No MSG is used and there’s free wifi. 02-tile

I’ve drooled at my monitor screen while reading blogs on Bali’s irresistible fried duck. Now it’s finally my turn for some crispy duck action! Tepi Sawah Crispy Duck (Rp 92,500) arrived fried piping hot with skin so crispy you can hear the crunch in your head. The bird is served with Balinese vegetable, plain rice and sambal; the latter-most complemented the tender and lean meat beautifully.

Another appealing item at Bebek Tepi Sawah is Bebek Betutu (RPp 104,500), a dish of skillfully smoked duck seasoned with a medley of spices.

If you’re not a fan of duck, go for the Ayam Panggang Tepi Sawah (Rp 60,500) an expertly grilled, juicy and flavorful chicken leg marinated with soy sauce.

We were served 4 condiments, prepared tantalizing spices that’ll bring out the best flavors of our meats. Some were really spicy (just the way we like it), but not so ridiculously numbing that you can’t taste anything else.

We also had Strawberry Juice (Rp 25,000) and Teh Botol Sosro (Rp 10,500) to wash everything down.

For seriously tasty food at reasonable prices and pleasant service, Bebek Tepi Sawah ( there’re 4 branches in Bali) is the place to go. Do note however, that portions are not large; we felt satiated, but not stuffed.
