Not all dim sums are created equal. These days, the usual dim sum fare just ain’t good enough, hence Peony Jade had unveiled a new assortment of offerings, which not only make a statement but also cater to consumer’s discerning expectations.
Chinese Flaky Pastry of Beef in Black Pepper Sauce ($9.50 for 3 pcs)
Sink your teeth into buttery, light and flaky pastry, stuffed with tender beef chunks luxuriating In black pepper sauce.
Deep-fried Phoenix Prawn with Cheese in Bean Curd Skin ($9.50 for 3 pcs).
Don’t be deceived by its predictable appearance, you are in for a surprise! Enveloped within the marvelously thin and crispy skin, is a layer of gooey cheese, encasing succulent crustacean.
The following handcrafted dim sums are undoubtedly Instagram-worthy! I fought hard emotionally, whether or not to devour these adorable creations, but eventually gave in to my growling tummy. These dim sums are not only visually attractive, but also appeals to the palate. I can see these being a hit, especially with kids, converting picky eaters into eager little ones.
Baked pastry with Chinese Pastry Crust & Bespoke Pineapple Jam ($10/3pcs)
Artistically handcrafted into intricate yellow birds, this baked dim sum boasts a sweet (but not overwhelmingly saccharine) house-made pineapple jam core and buttery short-crust pastry.
Steamed Piggy Char Siu Bao ($7.50/ 3 pcs)
Peony Jade elevates the mundane classic with captivating presentation, as well as the inclusion of bamboo shoots which adds textural variation to the juicy honey glazed BBQ Pork.
Gratify your sweet tooth with a series of molten buns-Steamed Matcha Salted Egg Yolk Molten Bao ($9 for 3 pcs), Charcoal Bamboo with Salted Egg Yolk Molten Bao ($9 for 3 pcs), and “Gudetama” Chocolate Molten Bao ($9 for 3 pcs). All 3 were excellent and ooze endlessly. I’m hard-pressed to pick a favorite item, but I think I’m leaning towards the green tea bun because it’s so unique, and I love how Chef Wong balanced the flavors, without the matcha nor salted egg yolk overwhelming one another.
Apart from the delectable dim sum, we also sampled another new series, At Home in Peony Jade A La Carte Menu by Chef Liew. The highlight is the tender and flavorsome Steamed Kampung Chicken flavored in Premium Dark Soya, which is currently on an irresistible offer as Peony Jade is celebrating her 12th anniversary- only $12 instead of the usual price of $48.
Other recommended items from the 12 for 12 Promotion are Rose-infused Honey-glazed BBQ Pork, Steamed Minced Meat with “Mui Heong” Salted Fish and Bull Frog with Chilli & Shallots. Do note that each table is limited to 2 dishes from the 12 for 12 Menu, which are priced at $12 until 12th July 2016.
Much love to 37 Communications and Peony Jade for the invite.
