Following 3 successful Battle of the Crabs buffet runs, PARKROYAL on Kitchener Road has upped the game with the inclusion of royal crustaceans! I’m sure the thought of having unlimited servings of lobsters (and crabs) is sheer rhapsody to many! The other 2 PARKROYAL hotels focuses either on crabs or lobsters, but at PARKROYAL on Kitchener Road’s Spice Brasserie, diners can indulge in a resplendent buffet that offers the best of both worlds.
Don’t worry, the signatures (Slow-braised Pumpkin Crab in Claypot, Chilli Crabs, Black Pepper Crabs) are still available, to cater to loyal diners. Apart from chilled seafood, the buffet also features 7 lobster dishes to enrich your palate.
Start luxe with an appetizer of Chilled Truffle Lobster with Marinated Jellyfish Salad Appetizer.
My eyes were gleaming when I saw the Lobster Mentaiko. Fresh lobster is covered with cheese, followed by a layer Mentaiko sauce, then licked with flames from the grill. Take a bit of everything and let it mingle in your mouth. Delectable!
For those who prefer lighter flavors, head for the Steamed ‘Live’ Boston Lobster in Chinese Wine. The crustacean is cooked a la minute, to ensure succulence. This is a clean-tasting and wholesome dish that will appeal to many.
The Lobster Wellington is something unique; in fact this is my first encounter with the English classic. This dish is essentially lobster chunks in savory sauce, snuggled within buttery pastry.
Rice and noodle lovers can get their carb fix with the various options such as Crustacean Paella, Japanese Lobster Fried Rice, Crab Roe Congee, Lobster Congee, Crustacean Congee and Lobster Noodle Soup. The seemingly pedestrian fried rice (but jazzed up with lobster, of course), was the surprise winner for me. The congee was of superb smooth and gooey consistency, with plenty of toppings. Pity they were a bit too blend though, but this can be easily fixed with some soy sauce. The latter-most is in essence, prawn noodle soup, but with lobster replacing the mundane prawns.
Try to stay until the end of the buffet, as you’ll be in for a treat! Later in the evening, a chef will go around, mingling with guests and serving Tandoori Crayfish.
Apart from the Union of Crabs and Lobsters Dinner Buffet, Spice Brasserie also offers the Singapore Nostalgic Lunch and Dinner Buffet, which features and extensive range of local and Asian cuisines such as an assortment of fresh sashimi and sushi, the popular Teochew Porridge corner, and a tantalizing spread of appetizers and desserts. These buffets will be available until 3rd Sept 2016.
