Christmas and New Year @ Street 50

Get set to deck the hall with bouts of jolly and indulge in merry holiday feasting at Bay Hotel’s Street 50 Restaurant & Bar. The dishes offered in the Christmas and New Year buffet are not something my food memory is familiar with, as the chef reinvents Christmas classics with Asian twists. My palate is intrigued and delighted with Street 50’s well-conceived reinterpretation of festive comfort food.

During the media preview, we sampled the highlights of the Eclectic Asian Christmas & New Year Buffet. This blog post only touches on 1/3 of the full spread.

Warm the tummy with Lobster Bisque or French Onion Soup, before heading for the appetizing Mango, Scallops & Prawns Ceviche in Thai Palm Sugar Dressing which lay on a bed of crunchy mango salad.

The Prawn Tikka Skewers were serious stunners and I found myself chasing every bite with another. Comes with Raita and Chocolate Orange Dip.

Winter Vegetable Mini Tarts

The Seafood Ice Bar features Oyster Shooters alongside King Crab Legs, Poached Prawns and Mussels.

One of the main focus of the buffet is Feast of the Seven Fishes, inspired by how the Italian-Americans celebrate Christmas- with plenty of fish and seafood dishes. I love seafood, hence without reservations,  dived into the variety of options.

Sea Salt Baked Grouper. These snowy fillets highlight the exceptional quality of ingredients and uncomplicated style of cooking, which brings out the best of the fish.

Meat lovers can get satiated at carvery, where one can spoil themselves with Tandoori Turkey Breast, Honey Baked Chicken Ham and Balinese Roast Beef Striplion.

I know many people skip carbs at a buffet, but I highly recommend leaving some tummy space for the Curry Puff-inspired Kheema Shephard’s Pie, where savory and slightly spicy flavours soar above creamy mash. One you start digging your spoon into this, it’s impossible to stop! The Italian Herb Fried Seafood Fried Rice deserves a mention too. The rice is fried with a concoction of spices that deeply penetrate each grain. Delish!

Finally, get your sweet fix with Chendol Christmas Eggnog, heightened with Coconut Malibu Rum, and crimson Cranberry Poached Pears. Other dessert options include Christmas Log Cake, Stollen and assorted Pralines, Cookies, and French Pastries.

I personally feel that Street 50’s festive buffet is not only value for money, but also appealing thanks to its extensive variety of offerings. The friendly atmosphere and spacious setting is great for the extended family to come together and celebrate Christmas and New Year.
