There’s something for everyone at Hotel Jen Tanglin’s J65 new buffets. The 5 themes offer diners a kaleidoscope of flavours and textures, at a wallet-friendly price of $55++ (Sundays to Tuesdays) and $65++ (Wednesdays to Saturdays).
The thought of having unlimited servings of BBQ meat and seafood, is sheer rhapsody to many. And the best part? You don’t even need to lift a finger. On Thursdays, the chefs slog it out the alfresco BBQ pit, while you relax and indulge in Garlic Butter Slipper Lobster, Tandoori Prawns, Cajun Squid, Sambal Seabass, Bulgogi, Kimchi Pork Belly, Mutton Satay and Chicken Satay.
My top picks are the succulent Garlic Butter Slipper Lobster, mouth-watering Tandoori Prawns, and tender Cajun Squid. I liked how remarkably fresh the seafood tasted. My dining companion, who prefers meat over seafood, was very pleased with the Kimchi Pork Belly.
Apart from the tantalising BBQ items, diners can look forward to salads, Seafood on Ice, Sushi, Sashimi, DIY Rojak and Kueh Pie Tee.
Although the focus on Thursdays is on BBQ, the Hot Station was equally impressive. We were pleasantly surprised with premium dishes such as Onion & Ginger Lobster, Black Pepper Lobster, Chilli Crabs, Stirred Fried Garlic Chilli Prawns, Steamed Ginger Garlic Clams and Seafood Paella.
Make a beeline for the Baked Salmon, which was amazingly moist and creamy. I had rounds of this!
Carnivores, don’t forget to get a slice of beef from the Carving Station.
Oh, and did I mentioned that the Baked Oysters with spinach, cheese and bacon are dynamite?
I urge you to save some tummy space for the dessert table, where resistance is futile.
Plum Clafouti Tart
Black Velvet Cake
Pandan Chiffon Cake
Assorted Kueh & Kueh Lapis
If you prefer sweet endings that are lighter on the stomach, there’s Honey Dew Pudding, Osmanthus Jelly, Choc Banana Pudding, Herbal Jelly and Raspberry Panna Cotta.
Buffet on Sundays and Mondays feature International fare. Highlights include Roasted Beef Ribs, Pork Knuckles, Virginia Honey Lemon Ham, Braised Herbal Duck and Kam Heong Prawns.
On Tuesdays, guests can anticipate robust flavours in the “Colours of Asia” buffet, where dishes such as Indonesian Oxtail Redang, Thai Steamed Fish and Roti Canai take centre stage.
Lobster lovers can pamper themselves with Wednesday’s “Lobster Rock-n-Roll” buffet. Help yourself to an endless supply of the royal crustacean, prepared in an assortment of cooking styles such as baked, curried, stir-fried, grilled and many more!
On Fridays and Saturdays, Seafood Mania showcases a magnificent spread of seafood. Expect Alaskan Crabs, Mud Crabs, Boston Lobsters, fresh prawns, mussels and clams, plus a solo station just for Australian Oysters. Continue the extravaganza with more seafood dishes, prepared in both Asian and Western ways at the hot station.
