There’s no need to fly all the way to US to experience the award-winning Yardbird Southern Table & Bar offerings. Located at Marina Bay Sands, the 190-seater two-story American Southern Cuisine restaurant operates under the name of The Bird Southern Table & Bar, to avoid confusion with Hong Kong’s Yardbird Yakitori which will be coming to Singapore too.
Just like the American outlets, the Singapore’s branch boasts an extensive beverage collection. A must-try is their Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade ($27) made with Wild Turkey Bourbon, blackberry puree, fresh lemon, cardamom and Angostura Bitters. Patrons who prefer non-alcoholic drinks can opt for flavored teas or lemonades.
The manager recommended the Classic Buttermilk Biscuits ($10 for 4 pieces) and we were glad we gave them a go. The accompanying honey butter and house made jam went superbly well with the fluffy and buttery bake. Two thumbs up!
Next, we tucked into the Deviled Eggs ($14), where a tower of swirled yolk and mayo mix is enhanced with dill, chives and burst of saltiness from vibrant smoked trout roe.
I approached the Fried Green Tomato BLT ($14) with much anticipation as it had everything I love. This starter is a stack of breaded tomato, pimeto cheese and house smoked pork belly with a dollop of smoky tomato jam; bold flavours that prime the palate for what’s to come!
Their famous signature Southern style Lewellyn’s Fine Fried Chicken is most sought after. The hormone-free chicken is brined for 27 hours, dredge in a secret recipe of spices and flour, then fried to perfection. You’ll find the exterior addictively crisps and the meat immensely moist and tasty from skin to bone- great on its own or complemented with the honey hot sauce. The Chicken ‘N’ Watermelon ‘N’ Waffles ($45) comes with chewy-textured Vermont sharp cheddar cheese waffles, excellent with a drizzle of bourbon maple syrup. Flavors are rich, so the chilled spiced watermelon does come in handy, giving the taste buds a break. Portion is huge, more than enough for sharing among 2-3 diners.
Diners who prefer a smaller serving can opt for the Lunch Set Special ($18) which includes 2 pieces of Lewellyn’s Fine Fried Chicken, chilled spice watermelon and house-made buttermilk biscuit. Do note that this is only available on weekdays from 11am to 4pm.
Although the portion seems small, the Macaroni & Cheese ($14) is a heavy dish that fills the tummy quickly. Dig into the crispy herb crust and be delighted by stretchy gold, made from five artisanal cheeses that enrobe comforting pasta.
After all the sinful food, it’s time to munch on something healthy. A vision of summer, the Butter Lettuce & Grilled Mango Salad ($18) with smoked pecans and benne seed vinaigrette is a gorgeous salad made for hot days!
We rounded up the meal with Banana Pudding ($14), an alluring dessert of rum soaked banana cake, Chantilly cream, fresh banana and vanilla wafers.
The Bird Southern Table & Bar is opened from 11am to 11pm daily. Lunch service is from 11am to 4pm and dinner from 4pm to 11pm. On weekends, diners can enjoy weekend brunch from 10am to 4pm. For those who drive, don’t forget to request for complimentary parking coupon, available with minimum spend of $75 for lunch and $150 for dinner.
Many thanks to Chrylser Communications for the invite.
